Pour over is a brewing method where hot water is manually poured over a bed of medium to coarsely ground coffee. The difference between a pour over and a drip coffee maker is that you are manually controlling when and how much water you pour at a given time. This gives you flexibility to adjust the balance between strength, sweetness and acidity.

One of the main advantages of using a pour over brewer is the clarity of flavor that you get in your cup. It works incredibly well for lighter to medium roasts where you want to extract as much of those unique flavors as possible.

6 Products For The Perfect Pour Over Setup:

Breville Smart Grider Pro

This is a fantastic conical burr grinder for the money and it is currently 43% off on amazon! It is easy to clean, can grind for either drip or espresso, and most importantly makes delicious coffee. Another great option is this conical burr hand grinder from JavaPresse: https://amzn.to/3lMR0C9 currently $34.99.  It takes a little elbow grease to grind your beans but the effort will be well rewarded. I take one whenever I'm traveling and won't have access to an electric grinder.

Hario V60 Pour Over Dripper

We use the ceramic version which can be found here:  https://amzn.to/3jVTT2H but the plastic one is actually preferred by some industry professionals because it doesn’t pull away as much heat from the coffee bed during brewing and it won’t break if you drop it.

The Best Paper Filters

These filters are tasteless so you don’t end up with any funky paper flavors and make for an easy cleanup.

Hario Glass Coffee Server

Aside from keeping your coffee warm, the large carafe size gives the coffee a nice amount of headroom to take in all those unique aromas. Not 100 percent necessary but we think it’s a good investment if you care about presentation and want to experience your coffee to the fullest.

Stovetop Gooseneck Kettle

A gooseneck kettle makes it much easier to control how fast you are pouring to get the perfect amount of water in the cup and dial in those brew ratios.

Our upgrade pick would be this electric gooseneck kettle from Stagg: https://amzn.to/3lA8qSn The Stagg allows you to set your desired water temperature and will hold it there for you - a super useful feature not only for brewing different coffees but for baking and brewing tea as well. It boils quickly, has a built-in timer and comes in seven different colors.

Coffee Scale with Timer

A good scale is essential for brewing consistently good coffee. Accurate to the 10th of a gram with a max capacity of 3000 grams. This scale is easy to use, responsive and comes with a built in timer - everything you need to make a fantastic and repeatable pour over.
