Sale price $18.00 Regular price

This decaf fair trade organic coffee comes to us from a group of women producers: Asociación de Mujeres Caficultoras del Cauca. Imported by Royal Coffee, this coffee is comprised of lots that the Royal team selected based on cup profile and the potential to express beautifully once decaffeinated using the water process. There is a lot to love about this coffee and we think decaf and non decaf drinkers alike will appreciate the flavor profile here. We've been enjoying this coffee as an espresso paired with a bit of oat milk but our pour over brews have been equally delicious. Grab a bag for those afternoon and evening coffees or if you are trying to cut back on caffeine but still want the experience of drinking a delicious coffee.

Coffee Background
DECAF COLOMBIA FT-FLO/USA ORGANIC CAUCA WOMEN'S COOPERATIVE ROYAL SELECT WATER PROCESS coffee is curated from lots that the Royal team has selected based on cup profile, physical preparation, and potential to express excellently once decaffeinated. During the water process, the green coffee is pre-soaked in water to expand the beans for caffeine extraction. The hydrated green coffee is then introduced to a unique solution of concentrated coffee solubles that draw out the caffeine while minimizing the loss of flavor compounds. Once the caffeine has been removed the green coffee is re-dried and re-bagged for transport, and the extract solution is filtered of its caffeine and recycled to be used again.

Processing Method

Fully washed and dried in the sun

Variety

Caturra & Castillo

Caturra is a cherished Arabica coffee cultivar celebrated for its compact size, high yield, and exceptional cup quality. Originating from Brazil, Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon variety, discovered in the early 20th century. Its shorter stature makes it ideal for cultivation in regions where space is limited, allowing for denser planting and efficient harvesting.

Castillo is a resilient and versatile Arabica coffee variety developed by the Colombian Coffee Research Center (Cenicafé) to address the challenges of coffee leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix) and other diseases. Named after the Colombian researcher Alvaro Castillo, this hybrid cultivar was introduced in the early 2000s as a successor to traditional varieties like Caturra and Typica.

What a treat

I really enjoyed this in the evening, after dinner, for a (sweet to me) treat. It doesn't take much to make it sweet to me, so this was really refreshing will a little bit of coconut milk.
